Retail Decorating for Spring and Easter

by Amy Ridings

The season of Spring and its corresponding holiday, Easter is just around the corner, which means it’s time to decorate for spring! With every store being unique in terms of style and layout, this article will give you inspiration for your retail space that will help get sales hopping.

One way to attract consumer attention is to think outside the box. Space can be an issue; however, a new design or designating areas for retail can make a difference for your business. For instance, take the Plantt Hill Nursery in Illinois. They had a 6,000 square feet space to work in that included enough area for retail and plants. They created a freestanding Easter boutique inside the greenhouse with four retail “rooms.”  To do this, they created a large X in the middle of the greenhouse, where each corner was its own retail space with its own unique indoor/outdoor theme. Then they added paint and accessories, so the retail area felt warm and welcoming. By thinking outside the box, they were able to sell 90% of their retail items. However, make sure to plan for aisle space and functionality.

It is not necessary to go to that extreme with creating a Spring theme for your store. Many other small shops and boutiques benefit from creating a window display or a small display within the store. To create an eye catching window display, try focusing on one shade of color and make this the focal point. In addition, adding animal mannequins with a realistic setting of flowers and trees can create an almost live exhibit. For stores and boutiques selling children’s clothes, this is a great time of year to create a playful and fun window display by incorporating Easter and spring clothes with Easter eggs, chicks, and rabbits. On the other hand, for a table display, try placing an outfit, one which a child would wear during spring, surrounded by a display of Easter books. The possibilities are endless for creating and designing a visually rich window and table display.

Aside from window and table displays, fun Spring decorations can be added throughout the store to create a warm and welcoming impression. For instance, try hanging an Easter wreath on the door. Wreaths can be purchased or one can be made with flowers and brown eggshells. If possible, try hanging miniature eggs on miniature trees, branches, or necklace holders. Flowers (fresh or faux) are also a good addition to any space as that can add color and make a space on the floor appear bright and lively.

Whether you want to revamp your store or add a catching display, these ideas will give you the inspiration you need to create the perfect look for your business.   Please stay tuned for more ideas, and as always, be inspired.
